Captain's Welcome

John Secker - Men's Captain

May I take this opportunity to introduce myself as Club Captain of Kirton Holme Golf Club for 2021 and extend a very warm welcome to you all. After what seems a very short and disrupted year as vice-captain, I feel very honoured and privileged to be asked to serve in this position at our fantastic Golf Club.

It is hard not to mention the difficulties we have all faced during 2020 where I have witnessed resilience, comradery and adaptability of Kellie, Jason, the great team around them and all the members. Let us all hope 2021 will offer some return to the opportunities we took for granted and we enjoy unrestricted golf, all our traditional competitions and full social interaction that this Golf Club does so well.

That said, I would like to make special note to thank Dixie Cambridge and Helen Fowler (2020 Captain and Lady Captain) who were forced to continually review and reset their plans for the year but still managed to organise a number of successful events that we all enjoyed.

My hope for the year ahead is that I will in my role of Captain be able to continue to maintain the traditions of Kirton Holme Golf Club and do what I can to ensure it remains a very warm and welcoming place for our members, new members and visitors.

The challenging 9-hole course is always extremely well presented with superb greens that are playable all year round. This is testament to the hard work and key knowledge of the grounds manager proprietor Jason Hadland and his team.

Our Clubhouse offers an excellent place to eat, drink and relax before and after golf. I often mention that due to the high quality of food and friendly atmosphere, it is the ‘best restaurant in town’, a statement I will stick by.

I have decided to focus on a local charity, The Butterfly Hospice in Boston who provide palliative and end of life care for local people and their families and carers. I hope that in 2021 we as a Golf community can together raise as much as we can to support the good work they do.

I would also like to wish good luck in her ‘second term’ as Lady Captain to Helen Fowler and say I am very much looking forward to working with her in the year ahead.

Whilst I brace myself for a busy year I look forward to spending as much time as I can on the golf course with friends, old and new and wish you all a great golfing year in 2021.

Helen Fowler - Lady's Captain

Hello, my name is Helen Fowler, captain of Kirton Holme Golf Club, Ladies Section. We are extremely proud of our reputation for being a very friendly and welcoming club. All ladies of any age or playing experience are very welcome to join us, or just come down to enjoy the atmosphere and environment.

You can take as little or as much as you want from our menu of activities. Tuesday mornings are earmarked for weekly ladies competitions. These range from qualifying medal and stableford competitions to the less formal games for individuals or teams. We have a number of ladies who prefer to play nine holes instead of eighteen. In addition to our Tuesdays there are regular competitions throughout the year organised by the ladies section, for example, individual and pairs knockout competitions, plus other trophies to be played for.

For those who want it, we have regular fixtures with neighbouring clubs involving both friendly and league games. For the more ambitious of you there is the opportunity to progress to county level golf. We also arrange regular away days and the occasional residential weekend. Just two of the highlights of our year include our Easter Eggstravaganza and Halloween Scramble events. The social side of things is also important to us. We have organised coffee mornings and other social events, often to assist with our charitable activities.

We are extremely proud of our course which consists of ten holes. Although not too long, it offers plenty of challenge to golfers of all abilities with some tight drives and strategically placed hazards. The course is superbly maintained and one of the results of this is that it is very rarely closed. Five star catering is provided, in the clubhouse, by Kellie and her team. We have a professional shop that offers clothing and equipment for sale and there is the opportunity to improve your golf with the able assistance of our professional golfer Jason Hadland.

Beyond the Ladies Section there is always the opportunity to participate in the huge range of events that the club arranges for the benefit of all members.
I am really looking forward to meeting you if you that you would like to give golf a try.
